Co-founder of Juillet Swim, Lindsay Rae Hofmann, chats with us about business, motherhood and what currently inspires her...

Where are you based? What do you enjoy about where you live?

Silverlake, LA. I love it because it's full of creatives...artists, entrepreneurs, young families, just interesting people -- you can feel that energy here. We are also currently in the middle of renovating our dream home in Pasadena. I think that's one thing I love most about LA is one minute you can be immersed in the city and the next, you can feel like you're completely somewhere else.

Our new property is right up against a mountain, so we have bears, deers, bobcats...basically where the wild things are. We really wanted to get out of the city to raise our family, nature is so important to us.

What inspired your brand Juillet?

It was sort of destined to be in a way. My brothers and Dad are surfers, so my entire childhood was based on the next best surf spot- we traveled the world of beaches. I myself never really got into the sport, it was always about what bikini I was going to wear, I had drawers and drawers full. Fast forward a number of years later, I ended up getting a job in Fashion PR working on swimwear brands-- and at this job is where I met my now partner, and best friend Whitney.

We sort of just jumped a cliff and quit our jobs to start Juillet. At the time, all the swimwear labels were really rooted in the surf culture, which we wanted to shy away from.

We wanted to create something that felt more feminine, delicate and timeless. We really took off when we introduced our coveted eyelet pieces and our brand now is really rooted in offering exclusive textured fabrics in our signature silhouettes.

Congratulations on the birth of your second child. How has motherhood shaped you?

Ah motherhood! It's really has become my entire existence... and I guess I wouldn't really have it any other way. Becoming a mother has given me the permission to be unapologetically myself. It's taught me the real meaning of what it is to surrender to a moment and to really be present.

Motherhood has given me the opportunity to come back to my intuition, to see my daughter with my son and realise this is their experience too, their childhood shaping in front of my eyes. There is nothing more beautiful and rewarding.

What does an ideal day off look like for you?

I'm all about quality time right now- after the birth of my son, I crave cozy feeling family days. We load up the car with both kids and our dog and usually head to a coffee shop - our favorite is Two Kids Coffee in Pasadena right now. From there we will walk around a neighborhood checking out different architecture, maybe hit up a park for our toddler or stop in a bookstore.

When I finally have a moment to myself I might do a little self care, tend to our house or spend some time finding inspiration on Pinterest for our new home and the brand. Pinterest is the new IG for me. Oh and I might do a bit of baking, my love language. Long lost are days off or of leisure for me, but I know that's just not the season I am in at the moment.
